HEATHEN DAVID BOWIE 2002

We took the theme of heathen defined as one who is regarded as irreligious, uncivilized, or unenlightened. To express this visually we thought about how religious icons has been destroyed in the past. We then treated the graphics in the same way. The majority of the text is crossed or scribbled out. We also looked at the way people had vandalised noted works of art - and then faked vandalised paintings (we weren't allow to show the real one for fear of copycat actions), the vandalism somehow seemed to add to the beauty of the pieces of work and express a human madness or creativity intervening in something regarded as sacred by society. Finally in a simple visual way we tried to say anti by putting the word heathen upside down on the cover.
