“We’re in the Victoria and Albert Museum preparing to rifle through your drawers
It’s truly an amazing thing”
– Tilda Swinton
Following our recent post of the David Bowie is book, we now feature our promotional material, beautifully printed by Generation Press. Following a similar concept and methodolgy applied to the book, we designed the promotional material based around the extendable exhibition title David Bowie is. The colour theme was derived from the lead image – the bright orange and dark blue of the Aladdin Sane flash. The image was chosen as a twist on the the famous album cover – Bowie starts straight ahead, confronting and unsettling the viewer. It ties in perfectly with one of the many isms used throughout the campaign: David Bowie is watching you.
The material concept was one of clashing finishes – where possible, we printed one side in gloss and one side on uncoated material. We produced a press pack which included a set of postcards.
We designed a number of invitations, including this rather special invite to the Gala dinner. The image used was The Archer by John Robert Rowlands from the Station to Station tour in 1976. Printed metallic silver on heavyweight triplexed board the invite is finished with a white foil stamp and diver foil gilt edging.
We produced this poster which rapidly sold out and was recently reprinted.
We designed a walking tour map of Soho which illustrates how Bowie was influenced by the area, and how you can visit key locations today.
