Up on FormFiftyFive all this week are a series of header images promoting VirusFonts. There are 7 in the sequence, with a new one appearing each day until the 25th.

The illustration was born out of discussions within the studio about language. It was decided not to use letters or text to directly represent the ideas, but something more abstract which could be interpreted in a number of ways. The elements could be viewed as words, individual letters, or as objects; fireworks, parasites, snowflakes.

Once a final direction was chosen, the image was taken further either side of this – more and less – as an experiment to see how far it could be pushed before it ‘broke’.

The individual pieces are created from the typeface Tourette, and spell out a secret message.
